The Portland Timbers opened their 2017 preaseason on Friday night in Tucscon, Arizona with a 2-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls.  

The Timbers give New York an early lead in the fourth minute as defenders Rennico Clarke and Gbenga Arokoyo combined to put the ball into their own net.  New York doubled their lead in the 60th minute on a penalty kick converted by defender Vincent Bezecourt.

The Timbers continue their preseason in Tucson on Tuesday against Croatian first-division side NK Istra 1961.  The first home preseason match this year will be on Thursday, February 9 against Real Salt Lake.
