The Portland Timbers score a very dramatic 3-2 win over Charlotte FC when they got a last-second game-winner on a goal scored on literally the last play of the match.
In just the third minute, the visitors took the lead when Pep Biel made a nice run and cut across the top of the Timbers box, slotting a nice curling shot just inside the left post past James Pantemis to put Charlotte up 1-0.
In the 11th minute, Portland leveled it when Eric Izoita made a low cross that bounced loose in front of the goal, where Ariel Lassiter finished to tie it up.
Five minutes before the half, Lassiter had a nice look from about 15 yards out, slotting a shot between a Charlotte defender’s legs that found the bottom left corner of the goal perfectly, and the Timbers had a 2-1 lead at the break.
In the 69th minute, Charlotte tied the score when Luca de la Torre made a nice cross deep into the Timbers’ box where Idan Toklomati got his foot to the ball first, putting home the equalizer.
But then, on the very last kick of the game, five minutes into stoppage time, Ian Smith‘s corner was headed towards goal by Cole Bassett, and then finished by a close-in header by a charging Alex Aravena to give the Timbers a 3-2 win as the referee blew the whistle before the match even restarted.
