When the Timbers were announced to be entering Major League Soccer in 2011, the matches vs. the Seattle Sounders were the first thing on the mind of many Timbers fans.\u00a0 On a rainy Saturday night in Seattle, the much anticipated rebirth of this 36 rivalry would be a wet, sloppy match, on a surface that played more like astroturf than modern Field Turf.<\/p>\n

After a pretty even first half, the Sounders took the lead on a 52nd minute goal by Alvaro Fernandez, after two Timbers defenders collapsed onto the same Sounders player, leaving Fernandez wide open to slot the shot past Troy Perkins.\u00a0 But 13 minutes later, it was deja vu for Timbers fans as a nearly identical play from Jack Jewsbury to Mamadou “Futty” Danso that gave the Timbers a win against Philadelphia last week would give the Timbers the tying goal in a 1-1 draw.<\/p>\n
