The Portland Timbers finally got a goal on Sunday, but things fall apart after that in a 4-1 loss to Sporting Kansas City.  Franck Boli<\/strong> scored for the Timbers, while Erik Thommy<\/strong>, D\u00e1niel Sall\u00f3i, <\/strong>and Felipe Hern\u00e1ndez<\/strong> scored for the hosts, while Sporting also benefitted from a Timbers own goal.<\/span><\/p>\n

In just the 8th minute the Timbers would take the lead, when a header from Claudio Bravo<\/strong> was flicked on by a header from Santiago Moreno<\/strong>, with Franck Boli<\/strong> sliding in for the low shot that was into the right side of the goal past goalkeeper (and former Timbers 2 player) Kendall McIntosh<\/strong>, and the Timbers, had an early 1-0 lead.<\/p>\n

In the 33rd minute, Sporting Kansas City would tie things up when Erik Thommy<\/strong> let looose a blast from well outside the box that goalkeeper Alja\u017e Iva\u010di\u010d<\/strong> seemingly had no chance on, and the match was tied at 1-1.  In the 43rd minute, the hosts thought they had a go-ahead goal, but it was waved off after VAR review. The Timbers also had a great chance in first half stoppage time when a Boli header missed an open net, then had a nice shot saved a minute or so later, but the score would be level 1-1 at the break.<\/span><\/p>\n

Iva\u010di\u010d would make a few good saves for the Timbers early in the second half to keep the match level.  <\/span><\/p>\n

But the Timbers lack of possession would ultimately cost them, when in the 66th minute, a low cross from Graham Zusi<\/strong> found D\u00e1niel Sall\u00f3i<\/strong> having eluded the Timbers defense, and he redirected the shot into the net easily, and it was 2- 1 Sporting Kansas City.<\/span><\/p>\n

And just a minute later, things would get worse for the Timbers, when the hosts were on a breakaway and Sall\u00f3i was attempting to control a defensive play by Zac McGraw<\/strong>, but Larrys Mabiala<\/strong> got his foot on the ball first and redirected it into the Timbers own net, and the Timbers were now down 3-1.<\/span><\/p>\n

In second half stoppage time the Timbers put an exclamation point on their collapse when Felipe Hern\u00e1ndez<\/strong> slipped in behind the Timbers defense and scored easily, to make the final 4-1 for the hosts.<\/p>\n

Alja\u017e Iva\u010di\u010d <\/strong>recorded four saves for the Timbers, while Kendall McIntosh <\/strong>had two saves for Sporting Kansas City.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
