{"id":8507,"date":"2023-07-09T17:12:19","date_gmt":"2023-07-10T00:12:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pdxcite.net\/soccercityusa\/?p=8507"},"modified":"2023-07-09T17:12:19","modified_gmt":"2023-07-10T00:12:19","slug":"thorns-drop-third-straight-losing-2-1-to-gotham-fc-on-the-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pdxcite.net\/soccercityusa\/2023\/07\/09\/thorns-drop-third-straight-losing-2-1-to-gotham-fc-on-the-road\/","title":{"rendered":"Thorns drop third straight, losing 2-1 to Gotham FC on the road"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Portland Thorns would lose their third straight match, this time a 2-1 loss on the road to NY\/NJ Gotham FC.&nbsp; <strong>Alexandra Long<\/strong> and <strong>Katie Stengel<\/strong> would score for the hosts, while <strong>Hannah Betfort<\/strong> had the lone goal for the Thorns.<\/p>\n<p>Gotham would take the lead in the 21st minute when a shot was deflected by <span class=\"mw-page-title-main\"><strong>Meghan Klingenberg<\/strong>, over the head of<strong> Bella Bixby<\/strong>, and finished on the line by <strong>Alexandra Long<\/strong>, and Gotham had a 1-0 lead.&nbsp; In the 32nd minute Gotham nearly doubled their lead when a shot by <strong>Katie Stengel<\/strong> rebounded off the chest of <strong>Emily Menges<\/strong>, then off the left post, before being smothered by Bixby.&nbsp; Gotham held a 1-0 lead at the break.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the 56th minute, Gotham would widen their lead when <strong>Margaret Purce<\/strong> headed the ball over Bixby, and though the Thorns keeper made a save, the ball then fell to Stengel, who finished from just in front of goal, and Gotham had a 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n<p>Six minutes later, the Thorns pulled a goal back when <span class=\"mw-page-title-main\">Klingenberg made a nice pass to play in <strong>Hannah Betfort<\/strong>, who finished nicely past Abby Smith and just inside the right post, and the score was now 2-1 Gotham.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Both teams would have a few moderately good chances, but neither team found the net again, and NY\/NJ Gotham FC would get the 2-1 win over the Thorns.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Portland Thorns would lose their third straight match, this time a 2-1 loss on the road to NY\/NJ Gotham FC.&nbsp; Alexandra Long and Katie Stengel would score for the hosts, while Hannah Betfort had the lone goal for the Thorns.
