{"id":9203,"date":"2024-05-04T21:25:22","date_gmt":"2024-05-05T04:25:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pdxcite.net\/soccercityusa\/?p=9203"},"modified":"2024-05-04T21:45:28","modified_gmt":"2024-05-05T04:45:28","slug":"thorns-win-4th-straight-hold-off-washington-for-2-1-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pdxcite.net\/soccercityusa\/2024\/05\/04\/thorns-win-4th-straight-hold-off-washington-for-2-1-win\/","title":{"rendered":"Thorns win 4th straight, hold off Washington for 2-1 win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Portland Thorns won their fourth straight match, after starting the season without a win in their first four, this time a 2-1 win over the Washington Spirit.&nbsp; <strong>Sam Coffey<\/strong> and <strong>Christine Sinclair<\/strong> would score for the Thorns, while <strong>Lena Silano<\/strong> had the lone goal for the Spirit.<\/p>\n<p>In just the fourth minute, the Thorns would take the lead when&nbsp;<strong>Hina Sugita<\/strong> made a nice deep run into the Spirit box, then dropped a nice pass that was finished by <strong>Sam Coffey<\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">&#8216;s<\/span> shot from the top of the box that curled just inside the right post, and the score was 1-0 Thorns.<\/p>\n<p>In the 22nd minute, the Thorns would add a second goal when a free kick by Coffey was headed by <strong>Isabella Bryld Obaze<\/strong>, and <strong>Christine Sinclair<\/strong> got to the headed ball first and tapped it past goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury, and the Thorns lead was now 2-0.<\/p>\n<p>In the 41st minute, Washington had a great chance on a header off a corner, but Thorns defender <strong>Marie M\u00fcller<\/strong> headed it off the line.&nbsp; The Thorns would lead 2-0 at halftime.<\/p>\n<p>In the 58th minute, Shelby Hogan would make a great save on a hard shot from the top of the box by Washington&#8217;s Anna\u00efg Butel, an especially impressive save since Shelby was just getting up off the ground when the shot was taken.<\/p>\n<p>In the 87th minute, Washington would pull back a goal when a cross from <strong>Trinity Rodman<\/strong> was nicely headed home by <strong>Lena Silano<\/strong>, and the Thorns lead was now 2-1.<\/p>\n<p>But the Thorns would hold on to take their fourth straight.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Portland Thorns won their fourth straight match, after starting the season without a win in their first four, this time a 2-1 win over the Washington Spirit.&nbsp; Sam Coffey and Christine Sinclair would score for the Thorns, while Lena Silano had the lone goal for the Spirit.
