San Jose goalkeeper <strong>Jacob Jackson<\/strong>, who was in his first match for the Earthquakes, attempted to play a ball from his own defender, but Evander was able to block the clearance attempt, then jumped on the rebound before any Earthquakes defenders could recover, and finished from just a few yards away to make the score 1-0 Timbers.&nbsp; The Earthquakes had a few good chances that we negated by plays where they were offside, including a goal that was negated.<\/p>\n<p>In the 44th minute, <strong>Santiago Moreno<\/strong> had a great look from just outside the San Jose box, but the shot was just over the crossbar.&nbsp; The Timbers would lead 1-0 at the break.<\/p>\n<p>In the 50th minute, the hosts would tie it up on a spectacular shot into the upper right corner by <strong>Paul Marie<\/strong> from 25 yards out after he had a good look at the ball after the Timbers attempted to clear a corner, and the score was now 1-1.&nbsp; Minutes later that Earthquakes had a golden opportunity to take the lead when <strong>Amahl Pellegrino<\/strong> beat the Timbers defense and had a one-on-one with Timbers goalkeeper <strong>James Pantemis<\/strong> and even rounded him and had a chance at an open net, but somehow put the shot wide and the score was still 1-1.&nbsp; In the 59th minute, San Jose would have another one-on-one break after the defense broke down again, but this time Pantemis came out of his box and spectacularly headed the ball away to end the threat.<\/p>\n<p>In the 72nd minute, the Timbers would re-take the lead when Evander made a nice chip into the box into the run of <strong>Jonathan Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong>, who eluded his defender and made a nice header past the Earthquakes goalkeeper, and the score was now 2-1 Timbers.<\/p>\n<p>The Earthquakes had some good late chances, including a free kick into stoppage time that fell to the feet of <strong>Alfredo Morales<\/strong> who had an open chance from just a few yards out, but somehow blasted the chance over the crossbar.
