{"id":9539,"date":"2024-07-20T21:57:14","date_gmt":"2024-07-21T04:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pdxcite.net\/soccercityusa\/?p=9539"},"modified":"2024-07-20T21:57:14","modified_gmt":"2024-07-21T04:57:14","slug":"timbers-fall-short-in-los-angeles-against-the-galaxy-by-a-3-2-score","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pdxcite.net\/soccercityusa\/2024\/07\/20\/timbers-fall-short-in-los-angeles-against-the-galaxy-by-a-3-2-score\/","title":{"rendered":"Timbers fall short in Los Angeles against the Galaxy, by a 3-2 score"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Portland Timbers fought back from a few deficits, but never found the late equalizer, and ended up on the short end of a 3-2 result against the Los Angeles Galaxy.&nbsp; <strong>Jonathan Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong> and <strong>Santiago Moreno<\/strong> would score for the Timbers, while <strong>Gabriel Pec<\/strong>, <strong>Riqui Puig<\/strong>, and <span class=\"mw-page-title-main\"><strong>Joseph Paintsil<\/strong><\/span> would score for the hosts.<\/p>\n<p>The host Galaxy had some good early chances, but were kept out of the Timbers net by good saves by <strong>James Pantemis<\/strong>, probably the best being in the 24th minute when a blast from <strong>Gabriel Pec<\/strong> was tipped just past the post.&nbsp; In the 30th minute <strong>Santiago Moreno<\/strong> had a surprising chance for the Timbers but it was just wide left.<\/p>\n<p>But in the 38th minute, the Timbers defense would have a breakdown when <span class=\"mw-page-title-main\"><strong>Joseph Paintsil<\/strong> made a perfectly-timed run in behind the Timbers defense, and eluded a charging Pantemis, and then passed to a wide-open Pec who scored easily, and the Galaxy had a 1-0 lead.&nbsp; In first half stoppage time the Timbers had a wonderful chance to equalize when Morena made a steal deep in Galaxy territory and played the ball to <strong>Evander<\/strong>, who slipped his shot just wide left.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the 48th minute, the Galaxy would get a second goal seemingly out of nowhere when <strong>Riqui Puig<\/strong>  was left open outside the top of the Timbers box, and he slid a low shot just inside the left post past Pantemis, and the Galaxy now had a 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n<p>But just four minutes later, the Timbers pulled that goal back when Evander played a nice pass to <strong>Jonathan Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong> who one-timed a shot past <strong>John McCarthy<\/strong>, and the score was now 2-1 Galaxy.<\/p>\n<p>But just a few minutes later, the Galaxy restored their two goal lead when <span class=\"mw-page-title-main\">Paintsil had a 1-on-2 break against the Timbers, but a nice cutback gave him an open shot that he finished well, and the Galaxy lead was now 3-1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Then in the 73rd minute, the Timbers would pull back a goal yet again, when Moreno made a few nice cuts across the top of the Galaxy box, then blasted a shot just under the crossbar past McCarthy, and the score was now 3-2.&nbsp; In the 85th minute, Antony did well to produce a chance for Rodr\u00edguez, but his shot was saved nicely by McCarthy.&nbsp; Seconds later Puig had a great chance for the Galaxy, but Pantemis made an equally good save.<\/p>\n<p>In second half stoppage time, <strong>Miguel Araujo<\/strong> had an open header chance on a Rodr\u00edguez cross, but the effort was over the crossbar.&nbsp; The Timbers would have a few good late chances, but never found the equalizer, and the Galaxy would hold on for the 3-2 win.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Portland Timbers fought back from a few deficits, but never found the late equalizer, and ended up on the short end of a 3-2 result against the Los Angeles Galaxy.&nbsp; Jonathan Rodr\u00edguez and Santiago Moreno would score for the Timbers, while Gabriel Pec, Riqui Puig, and Joseph Paintsil would score for the hosts.
