The Timbers reserves opened their 2012 season on Tuesday in San Jose, but were not able to find the net and fell 1-0 to the Earthquakes on a goal by Jean-Marc Alexandre in the 53rd minute.
The goal was off a pass from former Timbers forward Alan Gordon.
The reserves resume their 2012 season on April 10 against Seattle at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Washington.
