The Portland Timbers earned their second major trophy today, in their third attempt, to go along with the 2015 MLS Cup, with a 2-1 win over Orlando City in the 2020 MLS Is Back tournament in Orlando. The two central defenders for the Timbers, Larrys Mabiala and Dario Zuparic scored in each half for the Timbers off set plays, while Mauricio Pereyra scored late in the first half for Orlando.
With the win, the Timbers earn a spot in the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League. The Timbers were in the CCL in 2014 and 2016, though they did not advance past the group stage. The CCL for next season will not have a group stage and begins in February, 2021.
