Late miracle goal by Bella Bixby (!) get Thorns a 3-3 draw with Angel City FC.

The Portland Thorns let a late lead slip away, but then had a miracle goal deep in stoppage time scored by their goalkeeper, and would draw 3-3 with Angel City FC.  Hina Sugita, Morgan Weaver, and goalkeeper Bella Bixby had the goals for the Thorns, while Alyssa Thompson and Julie Ertz would get the goals for the visitors, along with an own goal.

Angel City would take the early lead when  Jun Endo headed a pass to Alyssa Thompson, who cut back into the box and  finished with a low shot past Bella Bixby, and the visitors had the early 1-0 lead.

In the 30th minute, Crystal Dunn was fouled in the penalty box, and the referee pointed to the spot.  Hina Sugita would step up to take the kick, and slipped the shot just inside the right post, and the Thorns had leveled the game at 1-1, which would be the score at the half.

But the Thorns would take the lead in the 65th minute when Olivia Moultrie slipped a well-weighted pass to Morgan Weaver, who tapped the ball wide of the Angel City keeper, then slipped the ball into the open net to give the Thorns a 2-1 lead.

In the 74th minute Angel City would tie the match on an odd goal.  It was ruled an own-goal by Natalia Kuikka though there were some questions if the Timbers goalkeeper was interfered with, but after a short review, the goal stood.

Just a few minutes later, the visitors would take the lead when Clarisse Le Bihan played a short corner that was directed into the net by a header from Julie Ertz, and Angel City how had a 3-2 lead.

The Thorns appeared headed for a disappointing defeat, but the Thorns had a corner kick at the very end of stoppage time so Bixby came out of her goal to add an extra attacker in the box, and the corner kick by Sam Coffey fell to the feet of Bixby, who only had a backheel chance as the ball was behind her, but somehow directed it into the net and amazingly the Thorns had pulled even at 3-3, with the match ending just seconds after the restart.
