Timbers shut down LAFC by 2-0 score

The Timbers would find their offense in their defense on this night vs. the Los Angeles Football Club, as Larrys Mabiala and Claudio Bravo would find the net in a 2-0 win by the Timbers over LAFC.

After the first part of the opening half saw neither team have much of a scoring chance, the Timbers would make a 28th minute corner kick by Evander pay off when Los Angeles keeper John McCarthy could not control the ball, and Timbers defender Larrys Mabiala faught off his LAFC defender to head home, and the Timbers had a 1-0 lead.  Both teams had moderately good chances to score in the remainder of the half, but neither team would find the net, and the Timbers would lead 1-0 at the break.

In the 53rd minute, the Timbers would double their lead on a counterattack when Santiago Moreno dropped a pass to Claudio Bravo, who finished inside the left post to give the Timbers a 2-0 lead.

The Timbers had a brilliant chance of a breakaway by Sebastián Blanco in the 76th minute, when he dropped a pass to Franck Boli whose shot was brilliantly stopped by McCarthy.  In the 83rd minute, LAFC’s Carlos Vela curled a free kick just high and wide from just outside the Timbers box.

But LAFC never found the back of the Timbers net and the home side would hold on for a 2-0 win.
