The Portland Thorns defeated the Seattle Reign on Friday night at Providence Park. After losing Cassandra Bogere early in the match on two quick yellow cards, the Thorns took the lead in the 28th minute when Olivia Moultrie‘s corner kick was headed in by Pietra Tordin for a 1-0 lead. 10 minutes later, Reilyn Turner had a breakaway off a pass from Tordin, and finished well for a 2-0 Thorns lead at the break.
In the 57th minute, the Thorns went another woman down when Reyna Reyes was ejected after a long VAR review. But amazingly, through great defense and a strong performance by goalkeeper Morgan Messner, the Thorns earned the 2-0 shutout.
