The Portland Thorns rallied from an early deficit, then took the lead in the second half, but a Gotham FC goal would level the score in a 2-2 final.
Former Thorn Midge Purce gave Gotham the lead only two minutes into the match, But in the 21st minute, Renee Lyles, playing in her NWSL first match, chipped the Gotham keeper and inside the left post to level the score at 1-1.
In the 53rd minute, the Thorns would take the lead when Jessie Fleming‘s shot from the top of the box was deflected and into the right side of the goal, and the Thorns had a 2-1 lead. But just nine minutes later, Gotham leveled the score when forward Sam Kerr recovered for a second chance at a shot when her first shot from a corner was blocked.
In the 73rd minute, Portland’s Jayden Perry was given a red card, but the Thorns would hold on for the 2-2 draw.
