The Portland Timbers held very tight for much of the match until giving up a late breakaway goal, and would fall 3-1 to Club América.

In the 6th minute, Brian Rodríguez put the visitors in the lead on a brilliant free kick from just outside the box that curled just inside the left post, and Club América had a 1-0 lead.  But 13 minutes later, Portland’s Kristoffer Velde stole the ball deep in the opponent’s end, and slid the ball low past the keeper to level it at 1-1, which would be the score at the break.

In the 63rd minute a few bounces would fall Club América‘s way when a shot deflected off a defender, then off the right post, before Isaías Violante finished into a largely open net, and the Mexican side was up 2-1.

The Timbers pushed hard to equalize, but could not find the back of the net, and in the 88th minute, Óscar Perea slipped in behind the Timbers defense, which was pushing forward, and finished to put the visitors up 3-1, which would be the result.
