Early Yimmi Chara goal holds up, Timbers top Sounders 1-0

On a rainy night at Providence Park, a 13th minute Yimmi Chara goal on a pass from Jeremy Ebobisse held up as the lone goal of the match in a 1-0 victory for the Timbers.

Seattle controlled 66% of possession on the night, and outshot the Timbers 19-9, but quality scoring chances were rare for both teams on the night.  The Timbers best chance was Chara’s lone goal, but shortly afterwards, Seattle had probably their best chance to equalize when Raúl Ruidíaz jumped on a loose ball in the Timbers end and had a chance to chip goalkeeper Steve Clark, but his shot was well wide.
