Timbers routed 5-0 by Houston Dynamo as MLS season resumes

In their first match back after the Leagues Cup, the Timbers largely didn’t show up in Houston and got blown out by a 5-0 score.  Amine Bassi, Nelson Quiñónes, Corey Baird, Franco Escobar, and Brad Smith all scored for the Dynamo.

In just the third minute, Timbers defender Claudio Bravo comitted a foul in the box, and Houston’s Amine Bassi coverted the kick, and Houston had a very early 1-0 lead.

Then in the 11th minute, Houston doubled their lead when Nelson Quiñónes turned nicely on the ball near the penalty spot, and blasted the shot past Aljaž Ivačič, and the Dynamo lead was now 2-0.  Three minutes later, Houston was on the board again when Corey Baird slipped in alone behind the Timbers defense, and chipped a shot over Ivačič, and just fourteen minutes into the match, the Dyanamo lead was now 3-0.

Just before halftime, Houston would score again on a near-repeat of the third goal, only this time it was Franco Escobar slipping in behind the Timbers defense and chipping Ivačič, and Houston had a 4-0 lead, which would be the halftime score.

In the 63rd minute, Houston added yet another goal to the blowout when Brad Smith was the one to get behind the Timbers goal, and another chip over the Timbers goalkeeper, and another goal meant it was 5-0 Dynamo at this point, which would be the final score.
