Thorns rally from early two-goal deficit to earn 2-2 draw with Racing Louisville

The Portland Thorns would give up two very early goals to Racing Louisville, but would fight back with two second half goals to earn a 2-2 draw. Morgan Weaver and Sam Coffey would score for the Thorns, while Uchenna Kanu had two goals for Louisville.

Racing Louisville was on the board with their first shot, in just the third minute, after the Thorns had a turnover at midfield, starting a Louisville counterattack, then failed to clear in their box, and the ball fell to Uchenna Kanu, whose first shot was blocked, but she had the chance on an immediate rebound and put home the second chance, and the visitors had a 1-0 lead.

Just three minutes later, another Thorns turnover at midfield would cost them, as Reilyn Turner made a run down the right side, and sent in a nice cross where Kanu fought off two Thorns defenders, and headed past Shelby Hogan, and the Racing lead was 2-0. The Thorns had a few decent chances later in the first half but never seriously threatened the Racing goal, and the visitors led 2-0 at the break.

The Thorns looked far more organized in the second half, and a failed clearance by Louisville in the 52nd minute would hurt them, as the ball fell to Sophia Smith, who tapped the ball to Morgan Weaver, who blasted a low shot past Katie Lund, and the score was now 2-1 Racing.

The Thorns had many chances over the next 40 minutes, but Lund was up to the task to keep the visitors on top. But eight minutes into ten minutes of announced stoppage, Sam Coffey made a nice run into the Louisville box, and blasted a beautiful shot from 15 yards out into the upper left corner, and the Thorns had tied the score at 2-2, which would be the final.
